Barcelona's Local Culture: A Pre-Cruise Guide to the City's Markets and People Watching

Barcelona is one of the most popular destinations for Mediterranean cruises, and for good reason. The city is home to a rich history, stunning architecture, delicious food, and a vibrant culture. One of the best ways to experience the city is by taking a leisurely stroll down La Rambla, the famous boulevard that runs through the heart of the city.

Our Mediterranean cruise began with leaving from Barcelona. We decided to fly in a day early. The first night we just wanted to get to the hotel and sleep after 20 hours of flying. We woke up the next morning and we were excited to explore the city. We started our day by walking down La Rambla, the famous boulevard that runs through the heart of the city. The street is lined with street performers, artists, and vendors selling everything from souvenirs to fresh flowers. We stopped to take in the sights and sounds of the street, and we even bought a few souvenirs to take home.

One of the highlights of our stroll down La Rambla was a visit to St Josep La Boqueria, the famous food market. The market is filled with vendors selling fresh produce, meats, seafood, and more. We were amazed by the variety of products on offer, and we couldn't resist trying a few samples. The market is also a great place to find a cheap and delicious meal.

After we visited the market, we made our way to the Cristopher Columbus Monument, which is located at the end of La Rambla. The monument is a tribute to the famous explorer who set sail from Barcelona on his voyages of discovery. The statue is impressive and offers great views of the city and the sea.

We then stopped for breakfast at Bilbao Berria Barcelona, a popular tapas restaurant. The restaurant is known for its delicious tapas and friendly service. We tried the American Breakfast and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious and the prices were very reasonable.

After breakfast, we took an afternoon nap to combat jet lag we were still experiencing. We then had a quick dinner and hung out in front of the Cathedral, people-watching and taking in the sights and sounds of the city. The Cathedral is a beautiful building, and it's a great place to relax and enjoy the city.

Barcelona is a city that has something to offer everyone. Whether you're interested in history, art, food, or just soaking up the Mediterranean sun, you'll find plenty to do in this vibrant city. We highly recommend taking a Mediterranean cruise that stops in Barcelona and taking the time to explore the city on foot. It's an experience you won't forget!

In conclusion, we had a wonderful time in Barcelona and it was a great start to our Mediterranean cruise. From the bustling streets of La Rambla to the delicious food at St Josep La Boqueria, and the Cristopher Columbus Monument, there is so much to see and do in this beautiful city. If you are taking a cruise leaving out the port, do yourself a favor and make sure to arrive at least a day early and say in Barcelona.
